Following Portugal's narrow World Cup victory over Ghana, Roy Keane took a shot at Newcastle United over Cristiano Ronaldo.
As he put Portugal in front from the penalty spot in Qatar, Ronaldo made history by becoming the first male player to score at five different World Cup competitions.
Following Ghana's equalizer, Portugal gained some breathing room thanks to goals from Joao Felix and Rafael Leao. Osman Bukari's 89th-minute goal then set up a tense period of injury time.
Diogo Costa, the goalkeeper for Portugal, almost lost the three points when he dropped the ball inside his area without realizing Ghana's Inaki Williams was behind him. Fortunately, Portugal was able to hold on. Costa was saved from embarrassment when Williams slipped at the crucial moment and was unable to get a shot on goal.
Keane, who was commentating the game for ITV, couldn't help but make fun of Newcastle as he watched the replay of Ronaldo's shocked expression in response to Costa's error. He said, "He [Costa] was very lucky," adding that Ronaldo was "very lucky." Tonight, Portugal's best and worst sides were on display.
"Look at Ronaldo’s face, my goodness." Honestly, he’s just had a call [telling him] Newcastle are in for him.’
Newcastle have been linked with a move for Ronaldo once again following Manchester United’s decision to cancel his contract this week.
Speaking about Newcastle’s decision not to sign Ronaldo in the summer, Eddie Howe said: "We’re trying to provide long-term growth."
"At the moment, we have quite an aging squad." We need to get the average age down, so it might not be a signing we’d necessarily look to make.’
