Ajax manager Maurice Steijn has suggested that clubs aiming to sign Ghana international Mohammed Kudus this season are not top clubs.
The likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton, and Manchester United have indicated interest in the attacking midfielder.
According to The Athletic’s Saturday story, Chelsea is interested in signing Kudus and has established contact with Ajax but has yet to make an official bid.
But the manager’s statement would suggest that he believes the current interest drawn by Kudus is not coming from the best in the business.
He told De Telegraaf, “I have the feeling that if he stayed for another year, the real top would come for him.
“If we become champions and he scores twenty goals, he might go for a double’. We try to keep that in mind.”
The attacking midfielder joined Ajax from Nordsjaelland in 2020 for a reported fee of €9 million.
