Former Liverpool center-back Jamie Carragher has given two reasons why Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo cannot match Argentina captain Lionel Messi’s flawlessness on the football pitch.

According to Carragher, Ronaldo cannot match Messi’s flawlessness on the football pitch because the former Manchester United forward has never orchestrated the tempo of a game in addition to scoring as prolifically as the Paris Saint-Germain star.

Messi, 35, is all set to play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final on Sunday against France.

The match will be Messi’s last appearance in the World Cup competition.

Messi has been integral to Argentina’s campaign, scoring five goals and registering three assists so far.

His archrival, Ronaldo, meanwhile, went out of the World Cup in the quarterfinal after Portugal lost 1-0 against Morocco.

“No one who has played the game in the last 30 years—and I include Cristiano Ronaldo—gets close to Messi’s flawlessness on a football pitch,” Carragher told The Telegraph.
“Ronaldo is one of the greatest goal scorers ever, but he has never orchestrated the tempo of a game in addition to scoring as prolifically as Messi.”
