Ralf Rangnick, Manchester United's interim manager, has explained why captain Harry Maguire was placed on the bench for Saturday's Premier League match against Arsenal.
For the game, Rangnick went with the central defensive pairing of Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof.
Maguire has been a consistent performer for United this season, missing only five of the team's 33 Premier League games.
Rangnick's decision comes after Maguire received a bomb threat, prompting police and sniffer dogs to extensively examine his home in midweek.
The England international has also faced criticism for his performance in Tuesday’s calamitous 4-0 defeat at Liverpool.
“I had to make a decision between the three of them [Lindelof, Varane, and Maguire]. Two could only play, "Rangnick told MUTV.
Harry has had a tough week. I decided to give him a rest and play with Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof, "he said.
