When his new team Southampton plays Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday (today), Paul Onuachu won't be on the field.

The Nigerian international joined the Saints on the final day of the transfer window from KRC Genk of the Belgian Pro League.

The South Coast club acquired the lanky striker for €18 million plus €3 in add-ons.

Onuachu is, however, yet to be granted a work permit by the British Home Office, which will make him eligible to play in the Premier League.

Alongside Onuachu, Ghana midfielder Kamaldeen Sulemana also linked up with the Saints on deadline day.

Southampton's manager, Nathan Jones, stated the two players were not available for selection against the Bees.

“They’re in the building, but we’re limited in what we can do with them because of the work permit situation,” Jones told reporters ahead of the game.

“You’re better off ringing the Home Office to find out." "We can keep asking, but until we get clarification on their work permits, neither will be involved.”

Southampton occupies the last spot in the Premier League table.
