The Osun State Government has declared that it will implement the no work, no pay rule on staff members of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, who refuse to resume duty on Monday, August 14, 2023.
The directive was contained in a memo signed by the institution’s Acting Registrar, Abiodun Oloyede
He said, “Sequel to the government directive that the Institution should re-open fully on Monday, August 14, 2023, the Chairman, Governing Council of the Institution, Hon. Diran Ayanbeku, has directed that all staff of the Institution should report unfailingly to commence the suspended Part-Time students First Semester Examination immediately.”
Ayanbeku also directed that attendance registers be opened in the Personnel Unit of the Institution’s Registry for the staff to indicate their attendance daily.
The memo also warned that any staff who refused to carry out academic duties would be accordingly sanctioned.
The Daily Post recalls that the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, Osun Poly, Iree chapter, had suspended academic activities over the State government’s suspension of the institution’s Rector, Dr. Tajudeen Odetayo.
Odetayo was suspended for alleged financial impropriety and abuse of office.
Kehinde Alabi was announced as Acting Rector by the State government, a decision that didn’t go down well with the ASUP members.
Also, a panel of enquiry was set up by the State government to investigate the allegations
Osun Poly ASUP had maintained that the decision of the State government to appoint Alabi as Acting Rector did not follow laid-down convention.
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics, SSANIP, and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, also joined the strike but withdrew along the way.
The matter led to students of the institution protesting at the State Secretariat in Abere last Thursday.
The students had demanded that the State government and Osun Poly ASUP settle their differences.
Responding to the students’ demand, the State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, represented by his Deputy, Kola Adewusi, assured the students that academic activities would resume on Monday, August 14, 2023.
