2022 Billboard Music Awards

This year, five new categories were introduced, four of which were based on Billboard's first authoritative global charts and one of which was based on viral songs. The total number of categories now stands at 62. Songs are ranked on the Billboard global charts based on streaming and download sales globally, excluding the United States.

Top Billboard Global 200 artist, top Billboard Global Excl. U.S. artist, top Billboard Global 200 song, and top Billboard Global Excl. U.S. song are the four new categories. As an artist, Sheeran is a finalist in all four of the new global categories with his breakthrough "Bad Habits."

The prizes for this year are based on data collected from March 26, 2021, through March 17, 2022. This corresponds to the Billboard chart dates of April 10th, 2021, through March 26th, 2022.
