Carl Dean, the beloved husband of country music icon Dolly Parton, has passed away at the age of 82.
The couple, who shared an enduring love story for nearly six decades, kept their relationship largely out of the public eye.
Parton confirmed the heartbreaking news in a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
"Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years."
A Love Story That Stood the Test of Time
Dolly and Carl first crossed paths in 1964 outside the Wishy Washy Laundromat in Nashville, Tennessee. At the time, Dolly was just 18, and Carl was 21.
Reflecting on their first meeting, Parton once shared:
"I was surprised and delighted that while he talked to me, he looked at my face (a rare thing for me). He seemed genuinely interested in finding out who I was and what I was about."
Two years later, in May 1966, the couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony, attended only by Parton’s mother, the preacher, and his wife.
Despite Dolly’s superstardom, Carl remained a private figure, avoiding the limelight while supporting his wife’s legendary career from behind the scenes. Their love story remains one of country music’s most cherished romances.
Carl Dean’s passing marks the end of a remarkable chapter, but his love and legacy will forever live on in Dolly’s heart and the memories they created together.
