The department's decision follows the Adetshinas' missed deadline to provide reasons why their South African documentation should not be revoked. According to Home Affairs Director-General Tommy Makhode, department officials visited a property associated with Adetshina to locate her mother, believed to be residing in South Africa.

However, authorities have been left puzzled after learning that Adetshina’s mother reportedly traveled to Nigeria last month to support her daughter at the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, where Adetshina was crowned the winner. Social media posts from the event seem to verify her presence in Nigeria, adding to the confusion about her recent travel history. 

“We couldn’t find a trace of the passport that she has been using to come to South Africa from Mozambique on the movement to Nigeria,” said Albert Matsaung, acting Deputy Director-General for immigration.
