British-Nigerian shoe designer, Liz Sanya, has successfully set a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest sandal ever made.
The colossal pink clog measures an impressive 3.156 meters (10 feet 4.2 inches) in width and stretches 8.147 meters (26 feet 8.8 inches) in length, surpassing the previous record held by a group of artisans from Municipio De Sahauyo.
The incredible feat took Sanya just 72 hours to complete, from January 2 to January 4, 2025, at Pixel Park in Lekki, Lagos. The record-breaking event was attended by notable celebrities, including Pheelz, Mayorkun, Korty EO, and P.Prime, who cheered on Sanya during the intense 3-day challenge.
Reflecting on the experience, Sanya shared her deep appreciation for the unwavering support she received throughout the process. “I can’t express how much this means to me. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the love and belief from those who shared my vision,” she said. “Ibadan is where I was born, and Lagos is where my inspiration came to life. It only made sense to return home and prove that I could break a world record in 72 hours.”
Sanya’s journey to creating the world's largest sandal not only highlights her creativity and dedication but also celebrates her strong connection to Nigeria. By choosing her home country for this monumental challenge, she’s making a statement that resonates with her roots and the global fashion community.
This Guinness World Record sets a new benchmark in the world of fashion design, proving that with passion, innovation, and a bit of pink flair, anything is possible!
