Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs will remain in federal custody after Judge Arun Subramanian rejected his latest bid for release ahead of his trial on sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges.

The decision, handed down on Wednesday, follows a contentious two-hour hearing last week where the court reviewed allegations of obstruction and witness tampering.

Judge Subramanian’s five-page order emphasized the seriousness of the charges and the risks posed by Combs if released. “The Court finds that the government has shown by clear and convincing evidence that no condition or combination of conditions will reasonably assure the safety of the community,” the judge wrote.

Federal prosecutors alleged that Combs violated jail rules and attempted to obstruct the investigation, even while held at the Metropolitan Detention Center. They accused him of using three-way calls to contact witnesses and orchestrating a social media campaign around his birthday to influence potential jurors. Despite assurances from Combs’ legal team that he had ceased using unauthorized messaging platforms, the judge cited evidence that Combs continued to use the service as recently as November 24, further undermining his case for release.

Combs’ defence team proposed a $50 million bond and stringent conditions, including 24/7 private security and confinement to a three-bedroom apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. However, the judge dismissed the suggestion, expressing scepticism about the effectiveness of such measures.

The rapper and producer, who has pleaded not guilty, was arrested in September and faces charges including sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and prostitution-related offences. His trial is scheduled to begin on May 5, 2025, alongside nearly 30 civil lawsuits alleging sexual abuse.
