Serena Williams wrote a heartfelt letter to her fans on her official Instagram account.

The 40-year-old has given the tennis community a hint that her tennis career is nearing its conclusion. The American claimed during her interview with Vogue that she is moving toward other significant endeavors but insisted that she dislikes the word "retirement."

I’m gonna relish these next few weeks. Unfortunately, I wasn’t ready to win Wimbledon this year. And I don’t know if I will be ready to win New York. But I’m going to try. I know there’s a fan fantasy that I might have tied Margaret that day in London, then maybe beat her record in New York, and then at the trophy ceremony say, “See ya. I get that. It’s a good fantasy. But I’m not looking for some ceremonial, final on-court moment. I’m terrible at goodbyes, the world’s worst. But please know that I am more grateful for you than I can ever express in words.

Williams made her comeback to the court at the 2022 Wimbledon after she was ruled out of the sport for one year.

Williams beat Nuria Parrizas-Diaz 6-3, 6-4 at the women’s National Bank Open in Canada. Williams beat Nuria Parrizas-Diaz 6-3, 6-4 to record her first singles victory in 430 days.

She wrote: "Unfortunately, I wasn’t ready to win Wimbledon this year." And I don’t know if I will be ready to win New York. But I’m going to try. And the lead-up tournaments will be fun.

But I’m not looking for some ceremonial, final on-court moment. I’m terrible at goodbyes. The world’s worst. But please know that I am more grateful to you than I can ever express in words. You have carried me to so many wins and so many trophies. I’m going to miss that version of me, that girl who played tennis. And I’m going to miss you. "

She added that she is retiring to spend more time with her husband, Alexis, and their five-year-old, Olympia.

The 23-time Grand Slam singles winner also revealed that she is trying to have another child in the near future.

She wrote: “In the last year, Alexis and I have been trying to have another child, and we recently got some information from my doctor that put my mind at ease and made me feel that whenever we’re ready, we can add to our family."

“I definitely don’t want to be pregnant again as an athlete." I need to be two feet into tennis or two feet out. "

She had earlier confirmed that she would be playing at the US Open, which will be played from August 29th, 2022, to September 5th, 2022.
