Colombian pop sensation Shakira has been hospitalized in Peru due to a stomach-related health issue, forcing her to cancel her much-anticipated Sunday concert in Lima.
Taking to social media on Sunday, the global superstar shared the unfortunate news with her fans.
"I'm sorry to let you all know that last night I had to go to the emergency room for an abdominal issue and I’m currently hospitalized. The doctors taking care of me have let me know that I’m not well enough to perform tonight," she wrote.
The "Hips Don’t Lie" hitmaker arrived in Lima on Saturday, marking her first performance stop in the Peruvian capital in over a decade. Fans flooded the airport to welcome her, with viral videos showing an outpouring of love and excitement.
Despite the health setback, Shakira remains hopeful that she will recover quickly.
"I hope to be better by tomorrow and that they release me from hospital as soon as possible to be able to put on the show that I’ve prepared for you all," she added.
The singer, widely recognized for hits like "La Tortura" with Alejandro Sanz and her viral 2023 diss track against ex-partner Gerard Piqué, has played a crucial role in bringing Latin music to the global stage.
Her chart-topping single "Hips Don’t Lie" featuring Wyclef Jean remains one of her biggest songs, cementing her status as a global icon.
Shakira's next scheduled performance in Lima is set for Monday, as part of her ongoing tour, which kicked off last week in Brazil.
Stay tuned for updates on her recovery and tour schedule.
