Power is sweet and that can be said if the military ruler in Burkina Faso as the military government, which seized power in a 2022 coup announced an extension of its rule for an additional five years.
This decision emerged from national consultations held on Saturday.
"The duration of the transition is fixed at 60 months from July 2, 2024," stated Colonel Moussa Diallo, the chairman of the national dialogue process, following the discussions.
Furthermore, Colonel Diallo confirmed that Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the coup leader and current acting president, will be eligible to run in any elections that take place at the end of the transition period.
The military has governed Burkina Faso since 2022, executing two coups justified largely by the ongoing insecurity in the country.
