Unknown assailants carried out a robbery on South African Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga and her security detail while they were traveling along one of the nation's primary highways.
According to a statement from Collen Msibi, a spokesperson for the Transport Ministry, the minister's vehicle had its tires punctured by spikes, forcing it to come to a halt and allowing the criminals to rob the occupants of their valuables. This incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning while the minister was en route to Pretoria.
Fortunately, Minister Chikunga and her security team emerged from the incident unscathed and in a safe condition.
In a separate statement, South African law enforcement indicated that the robbers made off with personal belongings and the service pistols of her two security guards during the attack, which transpired on the N3 highway southeast of Johannesburg.
The police spokeswoman, Athlenda Mathe, stated that a manhunt is now underway to apprehend those responsible for this unusual incident and bring them to justice.
