Traditional rulers in Anambra East communities on Tuesday warned Governor Willie Obiano that they would not tolerate cattle grazing on their land this season.

The Anambra State Government has an arrangement aimed at enhancing symbiotic tolerance between communities and herdsmen.

But the riverine communities said as the dry season had set in, with limited amount of pasture for grazing, they would not tolerate Fulani herdsmen resorting to their land located on the bank of the Anambra River to feed their cattle.

The communities are Aguleri Otu, Mkpunando and Eziagulu Otu.

They said they were recuperating from the incessant threat to our lives and colossal damage to our crops we suffered last dry season and so cannot take further damage.

In a communiqu dated November 14, 2016, issued after a meeting of Aguleri-Otu, leaders of thought led by the traditional ruler of Mkpunando, Igwe Alex Edozieuno, said the people had resolved never to allow the herdsmen to return to their land.

The Igwes and the entire communities in Enugwu- Otu, Eziagulu-Otu and Mkpunando, therefore, in the interest of peace, call on the Anambra State Government and all relevant security agencies to warn the herdsmen to steer clear of our lands from this dry season, he said.
