The Benue State Government has taken decisive action by sealing Oracle Business Limited and its subsidiaries over allegations of tax evasion amounting to N130 million, according to a report by News Nigeria.
The unpaid taxes reportedly accumulated over the past five years.
During a press briefing, Sunday Odagba, the acting Executive Chairman of the Benue State Board of Internal Revenue, stressed that the enforcement was part of the state's broader initiative to recover unpaid taxes from corporate entities. Odagba refuted claims of political persecution made by Oracle Business Limited, which alleged that the tax liability had been reviewed to N38 million, a sum the company claims to have paid.
Oracle Business Limited, owned by former Governor Samuel Ortom, has asserted that its closure was politically motivated. However, state tax officials countered this by stating that the company had not fully settled its tax obligations and had failed to attend reconciliation meetings, despite multiple invitations from the tax authorities.
