The legal battle surrounding Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has taken a significant twist as his case has been officially reassigned to a new judge.
This development marks a major step in the ongoing legal proceedings that have captured nationwide attention.
Court Reassigns Kanu’s Case After Judge’s Recusal
According to Naija News, Kanu’s lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed the reassignment in a statement on Saturday. The change follows months of uncertainty after the previous judge handling the trial stepped down.
Ejimakor revealed that before visiting Kanu, the legal team received two crucial letters regarding the case. The first, from the Chief Justice of Nigeria, was in response to their formal request for administrative intervention after the judge’s recusal. The second, issued by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, officially announced the reassignment of the trial to a new judge.
Kanu Expresses Gratitude for Swift Action
In light of this major legal shift, Kanu directed his legal team to publicly appreciate the Chief Justice of Nigeria for her prompt and fair decision.
"Following these latest developments, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu instructed us to extend his heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Justice of Nigeria for her sound judgment and swift response to our request," Ejimakor stated.
With the case now in the hands of a new judge, all eyes remain on how the legal proceedings will unfold in the coming weeks.
