In the early hours of today, a building collapse at Arowojobe Estate in the Maryland area of Lagos State has led to a tragic situation with lives lost and many trapped under the rubble.

The incident, which occurred around 01:55 hours on Thursday, July 25, prompted a swift response from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, with the Ilupeju Rescue Team dispatched immediately to the scene.

Upon arrival, rescue teams were met with a grim scenario. As of 10:25 am, reports indicate that five individuals have been rescued alive and transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Unfortunately, five lives have been lost, including an adult male.

Margaret Adeseye, the director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed the ongoing nature of the rescue operations, stating, "Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic event." Rescue teams are working tirelessly to locate and save the remaining individuals trapped in the rubble.

The cause of the building collapse remains unknown, and authorities are expected to launch a thorough investigation once the immediate rescue operations are concluded.
