The Dangote Petroleum Refinery marked a significant milestone on Monday as it announced its readiness to commence the production of refined petroleum products.
The refinery received its sixth batch of one million barrels of crude oil, a crucial step towards initiating its operations.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Dangote refinery expressed its preparedness to begin production with the reception of the latest one million barrels of Agbami crude via MT ALMI SUN. This shipment completed the initially scheduled six million barrels consignment required for the commencement of operations at the world's largest single-train refinery.
A month ago, the refinery received its first one million barrels of Agbami crude grade from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited, a major player in the global crude oil trading market. Subsequently, the refinery has been steadily receiving crude oil in batches, culminating in the discharge of the 6th batch on Monday at the Single Point Mooring at the Dangote Offshore Oil Terminal.
Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, Akin Omole, emphasized that the refinery is poised to kick-start its operations once the full six million barrels of crude have been delivered. The commencement of operations will enable the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), followed by the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery's ability to process 650,000 barrels per day of 100% Nigerian crude, with the flexibility to handle other crudes, is a significant development. It can process various African crude grades, Middle Eastern Arab Light, US Light tight oil, and crude from other countries.
This development holds promise for addressing fuel supply challenges not only in Nigeria but also in West African countries. As the refinery gears up for full-scale production, it is expected to make a substantial impact on the region's energy landscape.
