A tragic incident has been reported at the Federal Polytechnic Mubi in Adamawa State, involving the alleged suicide of a young female student, Jamima Shetima Balami.
The 24-year-old, a National Diploma II student majoring in Mass Communication, was on the brink of completing her Industrial Training (IT) at Adamawa Television (ATV) in Yola when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Hailing from Garkida Gombi, Balami was discovered lifeless at her residence in Vinikilang, also known as Hayin Gada, situated in the Girei Local Government Area of the state. The suspected cause of her death is believed to be the ingestion of a substance suspected to be rat poison.
Reports indicate that a significant aspect of Balami's personal life may have played a role in her decision to take such a drastic step. Allegedly, her boyfriend, identified as a university lecturer, had urged her to terminate their relationship, which might have contributed to her emotional distress.
Upon receiving the distressing news, the father of the deceased promptly reported the matter to the police. State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the incident on Monday, revealing that the police were presented with two different versions of the events leading to the young woman's death. Assuring a thorough investigation, Nguroje expressed the police's commitment to uncovering the true cause of this heartbreaking incident.
