Nasarawa state governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, has directed the Rector, Registrar and Bursar of the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia; Silas Gyar, Labani Dio Joseph and Abdullahi Akyo respectively to go on compulsory leave pending the investigation of their activities in the institutions.
The governor made this known in a statement signed by the secretary to the state government (SSG), Barrister Mohammed Abdulahi and made available to newsmen on Thursday in Lafia.
He said, ” Pursuant to the desire of the present administration to exposition the State owned tertiary institutions in line with its policy thrust on education; and in exercise of the powers vested on the governor of Nasarawa State in the relevant enabling laws establishing the state owned college of education Akwanga, college of agriculture lafia and nasarawa state polytechnic lafia.
“As visitor to the aforesaid institutions, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura governor of Nasarawa State has directed that the following principal officers at the nasarawa state polytechnic lafia viz: the Rector, the Registrar and the Bursar should proceed on compulsory leave with immediate effect pending the outcome of an investigation panel set up by the government.”
The governor also directed the affected officers to handover affairs to their respective deputies.
Meanwhile three committees have been set up by the governor to investigate the three tertiary institutions in the state- polytechnic, College of Education, Akwanga and College of Agriculture, Lafia from 2014 to October 2017.
