The University of Ibadan has been urged by a group to reverse the increase in housing costs.

The institution's management announced in a circular that returning students would pay N45,000 while newly admitted students would pay N60,000.

The circular directs new students and residents of Alexander Brown Hall at the University College Hospital (UCH) to pay N60,000 as the new fee for the lodging.

This is in contrast to the N30,000 paid during the previous academic session, The Daily Post learned.

Ben Taffe, the coordinator of the University of Ibadan branch of the Education Rights Campaign (ERC), criticized the administration's choice to increase the university's response.

Speaking further, the group claimed that every residence hall is still in the same filthy state as it was prior to the break for students during the previous session.

It bemoaned the fact that prior fee increases had not been followed by an improvement in living conditions for resident students and predicted that the most recent increase would follow a similar pattern.
