The wife of the Osun State Governor, Titilola Adeleke, has commended the widows in the state for their courage in the midst of adversity.
Adeleke also stated that the unfortunate loss of a partner is magnified by a long-term fight for their basic rights and dignity.
This commendation is contained in a press statement issued by Titilola Adeleke to commemorate International Widows Day 2023.
The year 2023 Widows Day is themed “Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.”
In the statement, Adeleke enunciated that “while widows go through their experiences of grief, loss, or trauma after the death of a spouse, they may also face economic insecurity, discrimination, stigmatization, and harmful traditional practices on the basis of their marital status.
Today, as the world marks International Widows Day, I empathize with all widows and acknowledge the pains and challenges associated with widowhood. I salute all widows in the State for their resilience in this time of hardship and for their courage in times of despair.
“It is my heartfelt prayer that God, the true husband of widows, will strengthen and comfort them in hard times.”
She also assured them that she would continue to develop evidence-based programs to cushion the hardship of widowhood.
“I pray that Almighty God will strengthen and comfort all widows’ who are going through hard times.
“Also, I assure you that I will continue to develop an evidence-based program that will cushion the effects of being a widow in any part of Osun State.”
