The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has officially reduced the price of petrol at its retail outlets.
The new pump price has dropped from ₦960 to ₦945 per litre, marking a slight reduction. This adjustment became effective on Thursday, February 13, 2025, following a directive issued by the company' s head office to all its filling stations.
A visit to one of the NNPC retail stations in Ejigbo confirmed the price change. A petrol station attendant at the outlet acknowledged the adjustment, stating, " Yes, this morning (Thursday), we received instructions from the head office to reduce the price from ₦960 to ₦945. You can already see the level of patronage and the long queues. " The adjustment immediately attracted more customers, leading to increased activity and longer queues at the station.
Despite the reduction, not all customers viewed the price change positively. According to Legit. ng, Kunle Ademola, a commercial driver purchasing fuel at the Ejigbo station, expressed dissatisfaction with the reduction. He stated, " Although petrol price has been reduced, it will have no effect on my fares as the reduction is too small for me to adjust. " His comment reflects a common sentiment among commercial drivers, who believe that a decrease of only ₦15 per litre is insufficient to significantly impact their operational costs or reduce transport fares for passengers.
