The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of seeking to thwart citizens' efforts to obtain voter identification cards.

According to Debo Ologunagba, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, in a statement released over the weekend, APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu was terrified of the popularity of PDP flagbearer Atiku Abubakar.

The ruling party, according to the spokesman, is specifically "preventing citizens from the South-East" from receiving their Permanent Voter's Cards (PVC).

He claimed it was part of the APC's "desperate plan to disrupt credible elections in 2023 by using violence, having realized that Nigerians have rejected Asiwaju Tinubu."

According to the PDP, Tinubu "has been in morbid fear of Atiku Abubakar's surging popularity" and is attempting to prevent more Nigerians from receiving their PVCs.

The current government, according to Ologunagba, professes to have the people's backing while "driving away prospective voters."

He claimed that the APC is suffering from "Pre-Election Fever Syndrome," fearing that it will not be able to win in a fair election.

The party recounted how, in previous elections, vociferous APC members threatened to toss Igbos into the lagoon if they voted for any other party.

“Violence was unleashed on Nigerians in the Isolo axis of Lagos in the 2019 general elections, where the APC discovered that it had been rejected at the polls," he said.

The PDP told Tinubu and the APC that they could not suppress Nigerians ready to “take back their country from the stranglehold of the corrupt, incompetent, inhumane and rudderless APC”.

The statement cautioned the former Lagos Governor and his party to “thread carefully and reign in their thugs, hoodlums, and terrorists as they will be firmly resisted by Nigerians”.
