Nigeria Army Gets New Spokesman
Sequel to the death of the late chief of staff, Brigadier Attahiru last month, a development that necessitated the appointment of a new chief of staff, the new chief of staff has now through the Nigerian Army has now named Onyema Nwachukwu, a brigadier general, as its new spokesperson.
Mr Nwachukwu takes over from Mohammed Yerima, also a brigadier general, who was appointed in February by the late Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru.
Until his appointment, Mr Nwachukwu was the acting director of defence information at the defence headquarters.
He was the deputy director of the Operation Lafiya Dole Theatre command in Maiduguri.
He attended the University of Ibadan and holds a Masters’ Degree in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, Post Graduate School, Kaduna.
He once served as the media coordinator of the Joint Task Force Operation Pulo Shield.
He was also Assistant Director Defence Information (NA), DHQ, Chief of Staff Headquarters Directorate of Army Public Relations and Public Relations Officer, NDA.
Nigeria Army Unveils First Self-Made AK-47
The Nigeria Army has unveiled the first made-in-Nigeria AK-47 which has been codenamed OBJ006 by the Army, in Kaduna.The weapon is being produced in mass by Dicon and with same capability as an AK47. Dicon is also producing NR-1 rifle and a Marom Dolphin bullet proof vest. They increased the production plant last year.It is instructive to note that the first AK-47 was produced in 1947.
