In a recent development, the long arm of the law has caught up with two notorious traffic robbers operating in the Agungi Lekki area of Lagos State.
Identified as Olumide Oladiji and Lekan Ibrahim, the duo was apprehended on March 15 around 7:30 PM, as reported by PUNCH Metro.
According to information gathered, the modus operandi of these criminals involved posing as beggars along the expressway, preying on unsuspecting motorists to perpetrate their nefarious activities. Their scheme involved forcefully snatching valuables such as phones and gold necklaces from their victims amidst the traffic congestion.
Fortunately, swift action was taken when one victim alerted patrol personnel from the Ilasan division stationed at the Jakande roundabout. With timely intervention, Olumide Oladiji and Lekan Ibrahim were swiftly arrested and subsequently taken into custody.
Confirming the incident, a police source revealed to PUNCH Metro that the stolen items were successfully recovered from the culprits. Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, reiterated this, assuring that the suspects would face legal proceedings for their crimes.
This recent arrest underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb the activities of criminal elements within the state. It serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious activities to ensure the safety and security of residents.
This incident follows a similar crackdown in January, where notorious traffic robbers operating in the Orile-Iganmu area were apprehended following a tip-off from vigilant members of the public. The coordinated efforts between law enforcement and citizens are crucial in combatting crime and maintaining peace and order in our communities.
As the legal process unfolds, it is hoped that justice will be served, and these apprehended individuals will be held accountable for their actions. Let this serve as a testament to the collective resolve to rid our streets of criminal elements and create a safer environment for all.
