The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewaure II, has called on Nigerian youths to cancel the planned protest set for August 1, 2024.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Osaigbovo Iguobaro, the revered monarch emphasized the need for patience, noting that improvements take time.
Oba Ewaure II urged the aggrieved Nigerians to allow the Federal Government adequate time to implement its economic policies, which are expected to alleviate the current hardships. "For things to get better, it has to be tough for a while," he remarked.
Additionally, the monarch appealed to the Federal Government to expedite efforts in executing its economic and security policies effectively.
He advised those planning the nationwide protest to reconsider and shelve their plans.
The call comes in response to a proposal by some youths to start a 10-day nationwide protest on August 1, 2024, to highlight the hunger and hardship facing citizens and draw the attention of both federal and state governments.
President Bola Tinubu has also appealed to Nigerians to give him more time to fulfill his plans for the nation.
