Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has suggested that Nigeria seek guidance from Zimbabwe's government to address the current all-time high inflation plaguing the country.

Obasanjo, speaking at a youth leadership symposium on his 87th birthday, emphasized the importance of learning from the experiences of others, especially when facing economic challenges.

In his address at the "Opportunities for Peace: Roles of the Youths in Conflict Prevention in Africa" symposium held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Obasanjo pointed out that Zimbabwe recently overcame a similar inflation crisis. He urged Nigeria to inquire about the strategies employed by Zimbabwe, even if the approaches may differ, to navigate through its own economic difficulties.

Nigeria is currently grappling with a staggering inflation rate of 29.9%, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics. The rising cost of living has led to pockets of protests across the country, with citizens contending with soaring prices of essential commodities.

During the symposium, Obasanjo highlighted the need for dialogue and peaceful resolutions to conflicts on the African continent. He stressed that, now more than ever, efforts to instill a culture of peace and security in the youth must be intensified. Obasanjo advocated for building a mindset of peace and love, emphasizing the importance of inculcating positive values to prevent the youth from being drawn into violence.

Reflecting on historical conflicts, Obasanjo reminded the audience of Nigeria's civil war and the eventual resolution through dialogue. He urged the youth to champion peace, persuading those inclined towards violence to reconsider their approach. Obasanjo concluded by emphasizing the significance of developing a culture of peace, humaneness, and adherence to the values that promote a harmonious society.
