Rauf Aregbesola, the Minister of Interior, has emphasized that the Federal Government will not be deterred in its attempts to maintain appropriate protection for citizens' lives and property.

In the aftermath of the attack and massacre of worshipers at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, by yet-to-be identified gunmen on Sunday, Aregbesola made this known during a visit to Owo on Monday.

The Minister, who called the death of the worshipers "devastating, senseless, and an effort to start ethnic strife" during his visit, stated that the incident was carried out to lower the government's and Owo community's morale.

He pointed out that the crooks were focusing on soft targets since they were vulnerable.

While commiserating with the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin III, on the attack, he urged traditional institutions and law enforcement agencies to work together to apprehend the fleeing culprits.

At the church, Aregbesola expressed concern to the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Andrew Abayomi, that the attack occurred in a region of the country known for its peace and quiet.

While stating that the security of Nigerians' lives and property remained the government's top priority, Aregbesola noted that the government was doing everything necessary to make the country secure and peaceful.

He said the Federal Government was outraged by the attack and would leave no stone unturned in getting to the root of it.
We must remain irrepressible and undeterred. We should not give our enemies the benefit of rejoicing over us. The attack was meant to dampen our morale and plunge us into gloom and darkness.
“We must bounce back big time. But we should rise to defend our land and take our historic position in leading the black race to fulfill its destiny, "the Minister concluded.
