Lere Oyewumi, the deputy minority leader in the Senate, claimed that the People's Democratic Party (PDP) national leadership is handling concerns about the behavior of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike diplomatically.
Senator Oyewumi of Osun State's Osun West Senatorial District insisted that ousting anyone from the party was frequently politicized and insisted that the party leadership knew what action to take.
He made this known while responding to questions raised by journalists during a press conference in Ikire on Friday.
There have been calls for the suspension of Nyesom Wike, a prominent PDP chieftain and now serving Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, under President Bola Tinubu.
Daniel Bwala, a former aide to Abubakar Atiku, the PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, stated on national television that Wike would be expelled from the party at an appropriate time.
However, Oyewumi said: “Wike is our leader, one of the prominent leaders, the [former] Rivers State governor, where PDP did wonderfully well in the last election. He was one of the PDP governors who had never missed a party program.
“Wike may have some issues that he is reacting to, but I am sure the party leadership and the national working committee are handling it better.
“Removing anybody at times is taken out of proportion and politicized, but I am sure people at the helm of the affairs of the party know the right decision to take at the right time, and they will continue to do that for the betterment of the party.”
