Four alleged "Black Axe" members of a notorious cult have been detained by Bauchi Police Command agents while they were participating in a cult initiation ceremony for new recruits.

The initiation was reportedly held at midnight on September 2, 2023, on the outskirts of Bauchi, directly across from the Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa University's Gubi Campus, on the Kano-Bauchi Road.

Eric Nuhu, 23, an ATBU 500-level student, and Zaharaddeen Hassan, 19, a National Diploma candidate, were named as the suspects. Felix John, a 24-year-old student at the Federal Polytechnic in Bauchi, graduated with a Higher National Diploma. Daniel Masaka of the Karu Local Government Area in Nasarawa State and one other student from the Federal Polytechnic in Bauchi

These were disclosed by the command in a statement that the spokesman, SP Ahmed Wakil, made available to journalists on Friday.

Wakil claimed that during questioning, the first and second suspects admitted to being initiated into the cult after being invited by one of their classmates, Abbas Apeh "m," a 500-level student at the same ATBU.

He added that the third and fourth suspects confessed to having been members of the cult group for a long time, adding that they were invited by their group members to join the initiation event of the newcomers.

According to him, efforts are in top gear to arrest the fleeing accomplices, after which the suspects will be charged to Court for prosecution of the established offenses accordingly.
