A 37-year-old security guard at Prestige International College in the Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State, Nuradeen Shehu, has reportedly committed suicide.
The State Police Commissioner, Hussaini Gumel, provided details to the press on Tuesday, disclosing that the incident unfolded inside one of the college's classrooms.
According to Gumel, the tragic event was brought to light on January 28 around 10:30 am when Abdullahi Abdulsalam of Rijiyar Zaki reported that Nuradeen Shehu, the security guard at the college, was found lifeless, having hanged himself with a rope in a classroom.
Responding swiftly to the report, a team of policemen from Gwale Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), arrived at the scene. They forcefully unlocked the door, cut the rope, and rushed the lifeless body to Murtala Mohammed General Hospital. Unfortunately, a medical doctor at the hospital confirmed his death.
The deceased's body was later released to his family for burial, marking a somber conclusion to the tragic incident. It has been revealed that Nuradeen Shehu took this drastic step after learning that his ex-wife had remarried.
Commissioner Gumel assured the public that the police would conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suicide, aiming to understand the factors that led to this tragic outcome. The incident sheds light on the importance of addressing mental health issues and providing support to those in distress within our communities. Our thoughts go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss.
