To mitigate the effects of the removal of fuel subsidies, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has started distributing palliatives to the state's citizens.
According to The Daily Post, in an effort to ease the hardship being felt by Nigerians, the Ogun State Government announced that it had received 30,000 bags of rice from the Federal Government.
Governor Abiodun, while flagging off the distribution in Abeokuta, said the rice, in 50-kg bags, would be re-bagged into 10-kg bags.
This, Abiodun said, would give the government the opportunity to reach out to 300,000 families across 5,400 polling units in the state.
In order to ensure an equitable distribution, he claimed that the distribution committee, which is led by his deputy Noimot Salako-Oyedele, will use polling units rather than wards.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for the initiative, which he said would help to check hunger among Nigerians.
Abiodun assured Ogun residents that the palliatives would reach the intended beneficiaries, regardless of political parties.
