A violent communal clash between Hausa and Fulani groups in Agufa village, Miga Local Government Area (LGA) of Jigawa State, has left two people dead and several others injured, the state police command confirmed.

According to reports by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the clash erupted on Monday at approximately 1:45 pm.

The conflict reportedly began as a dispute over alleged “acts of mischief” by some Fulani youths.

Initially reported to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the situation quickly escalated into violence, with both groups engaging in combat using bows and arrows before security forces intervened.

Four members of the Hausa community- Mohammed Haruna, Umar Chiroma, Inusa Usman, and Garba Musa, sustained arrow wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

On the Fulani side, two individuals, Beti Shanu and Inusa A. Isa, were found dead with bullet wounds. Another victim, Muhammed Isah, suffered gunshot injuries and was also taken to the hospital.

The publication alleged that NSCDC personnel at the scene fired shots, resulting in casualties before the arrival of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his team.

Authorities have since restored order in the area.

The Jigawa police command stated that it would commence engagements with community leaders and stakeholders to promote peace and prevent further violence.
