Yesterday in Ilesa, Osun State, a horrifying incident unfolded as a container fell on a car, trapping a woman inside.

The severity of the situation was exacerbated by the excruciating wait for chelp and the arrival of a crane to remove the container crushing the vehicle.

As images circulate of the trapped woman and the desperate calls for assistance, it becomes evident that there was a significant delay in providing the necessary support. Shockingly, three agonizing hours passed before a crane arrived at the scene.

Tragically, by the time help finally reached her, it was too late. The woman had succumbed to her injuries, likely experiencing a slow and agonizing death from either suffocation or crushing.

The sheer horror of this incident underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive overhaul of the Nigerian Emergency Services. It is utterly unacceptable that such a preventable tragedy occurred, leaving a life needlessly lost.

The thought of enduring such a fate is chilling and deeply disturbing. As a society, we cannot afford to tolerate such negligence and incompetence in our emergency response systems.

This heartbreaking loss serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of timely and effective emergency services. It is imperative that immediate action be taken to address the shortcomings within the system to prevent further loss of life and ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.
