From that scripture, John 8:32 Jesus made it clear that people can remain in bondage and continue to suffer all manner of oppression and that no other force on earth can bring deliverance except the knowledge of the truth.
No doubt, truth must be priceless and all important. And to buttresses that fact, the Bible also has it in Hosea 4: 6 that "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge....." which if I may paraphrase that passage, it should simply mean that my people are suffering because they lack the correct information.
Correct information is what I call the truth and which is what our people lack and we are all paying dearly for it. The truth here starts with even getting our people to know that they are actually suffering and have been deprived of so many democratic dividends.
It entails getting the masses to realize what the political class has been doing with our common wealth and those things they failed to do which would have translated to improved living condition and reduce the gap between the rich and the poor. The masses are too blind to see what is going on and unfortunately, yes, I must say it's quite unfortunate that even those who ought to know chose to sale their conscience and turn blind eyes due to the crumbs they get from the perfidious system.
The masses are not so informed to appreciate the implications of both their actions and inactions. And unarguably, when people are not informed, they are automatically deformed. Suffice to say they are already inured to sufferings. The politicians know this and their treasure trove remains people's "ignorance and provincialism".
They are capable of and willing to do anything to perpetrate that status quo. Feed them with anomalous religious slogan, ostensible charity, deceptive projects and sustained media propaganda. All in a bit to ensure that the people are subjugated, suffering and smiling.
And their suffering will continue to multiply and all fronts because the politicians will never get enough, the more they squander our treasury, they more insecure they get, and so the looting continues from one administration to another. What is most regrettable is that the masses whose lives, well being and future are robbed seem not to care. They swallow every lie hook, line and sinker and abnegate any form information capable of illuminating their dark minds. Otherwise, how come what you hear from most people when you chat them up about a new political movement is, "ana ekekwa ego ebe ahu?" meaning; hope they are sharing money there?. One wonders how come our people haven't realized that accepting gratifications to vote is the bane of good leadership.
That we cannot have a truly people oriented leadership so long as our votes go for the highest bidder. And that so long as we continue to comprise credible elections our suffering can only exacerbate. The truth our people must know is that when we allow money bag politicians trick us, we are in for a raw deal because they and their sponsors are definitely going to make us pay back and we must pay through our nose! The public schools both primary and secondary are all dilapidated and with propensity to get even worse with time.
The children of the poor masses who can't afford the high school fees paid at the private school (most of which own by politicians and their cronies and obviously built by our stolen funds) are doomed to underdevelopment. Our people are not aware that why most public health institutions are left in comatose state is because the politicians want us to either patronise their own hospitals cut throat costs or as well go and die.
Businesses, even small ones and hawkers pay crazy amount in taxes and to too many government agencies because they must recover their investment. Most of the agencies engage thugs with armed with security operatives authorized to hoodwink any defaulter without showing even the least mercy to those with glaring handicaps. What about road infrastructure? Is anybody in doubt that we have better quality jobs done at the fairest cost? Or, is anybody in doubt that we can have projects that are geared towards aggressive development and industrialization of the state? Yes we can! And that is part of the truth Enugu people must know. Ekene Uzodinma the initiator of The Enugu project (TNEP) is poised to challenge the status quo.
He has succeeded in selling his change ideology to the youths of the state and leaves no one in doubt that except and until we wake up from our political somnolence and take charge, things are bound to get worse. For this coming general election, there will be no comprise.
The Egyptians you see today, you shall see them no more. For Enugu people shall know the truth and the truth shall set them free.
