Napoli have added Cote dIvoire legend Didier Drogba to their transfer shortlist ahead of a potential short-term move, according to reports in Italy.

Various named have been linked to the Partenopei this week after the injury suffered by striker Arkadiusz Milik, with Calcio Mercato now adding Montreal Impact striker Drogba to the lengthening list of possible offensive solutions.

Polish forward Milik a summer signing from Ajax as Napoli sought to replace Juventus-bound Gonzalo Higuain has been ruled out for six months after damaging his cruciate ligament while on international duty.

While the Naples heavyweights will initially turn to Manolo Gabbiadini to lead the line, theyre understood to be considering various options to bolster their offensive options and help them keep pace with league leaders Juve.

The likes of Dimitar Berbatov, Nicolas Anelka, Miroslav Klose and Francesco Macheda have all been linked with a move to Napoli, and while another mooted target Marouane Chamakh has completed a move to Cardiff City, Emmanuel Adebayor is another African hitman who has been linked with a switch to the Serie A giants.At 38, Drogba is significantly older than even Adebayor, who, it could be argued, is already past his prime.

However, the Ivorian forward offers almost unparalleled experience and, as he has demonstrated with his recent showings in Major League Soccer, still offers a scoring threat.

Drogba has scored 10 goals and contributed three assists in 22 MLS matches for the Impact this season, following on from 12 in 14 last term, placing him 15th in the divisions scoring charts.


The attacker, who ranks among the greatest players ever to emerge from the African continent, has represented teams across the world featuring in France, England, Turkey and China but has never tasted Serie A.

He could be a valuable asset to Napolis Champions League campaign should Sarris side advance out of the group, having previously won the title with Chelsea in 2012.

While Drogba missed the Cote dIvoires Nations Cup glory in Equatorial Guinea last year, he is one of Africas most decorated players, having won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Turkish Super Lig during a brief spell with Galatasaray.
