As the Nigeria senior national team, the Super Eagles continue to prepare for the crucial 2019 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Chipolopolo of Zambia, former Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chief Adegboye Onigbinde has noted that the team needs to build on the stamina level of the players.
Onigbinde who spoke to Sports Vanguard after watching the warm-up match between the Super Eagles and Plateau United of Jos on Wednesday noted that the team showed some flashes which he stated could be built on to have a formidable side that can withstand any opposition. The former Coach of the Super Eagles also declared that the team needs to intensify its preparations for the challenge ahead given the fact that Nigerians will be eager to see their national team book one of the tickets for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.
However, the Modakeke High Chief was cagey in his response declined to give any advise to the Technical Adviser of the team, Gernot Rohr ostensibly to avoid being seen as meddling in the affairs of the team. I dont know who the coach is but I know they have a Technical Adviser, so I should not be advising an adviser. The success of the team will depend largely on the formation of the handlers. I am not close to the team and so can not make much comment because I am not an armchair critic. But from the game I just watched, it is obvious that the team has not arrived yet, they need some improvement. Virtually, the team that played in the second half was better but they need to build on their stamina if they must go far.
I am a Nigerian and since I have not changed my nationality, I will like to see Nigeria win this match. Onigbinde led Nigeria to the 2002 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by Japan and Korea.
