Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand has criticized striker, Joshua Zirkzee for his display as the Red Devils’ defeated Rangers 2-1 in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Ferdinand believes the Dutchman was ‘non-existent’ for large parts of the encounter at Old Trafford.

According to the Englishman, the 23-year-old was not a threat in front of goal against the visitors.

Zirkzee linked up play well but had just two shots and four touches in Rangers’ penalty area before being withdrawn for Rasmus Hojlund in the 82nd minute.

Reflecting on Zirkzee’s display, former Scotland striker Ally McCoist said during his commentary for TNT Sports: “I think he’s done alright Zirkzee but I’ll say it again: I think from Manchester United’s point of view you’d like to see more of a goalscoring threat as well as he played.”

Ferdinand, meanwhile, said: “I thought he was non-existent in the first half to be honest but I thought he improved in the second half.

“He still wasn’t a real threat on the goal but they got their goal in the end.”

Man United defeated Rangers, thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ late winner as Ruben Amorim’s side claimed a narrow 2-1 win at home.
