Calvin Bassey expressed his joy after scoring a crucial goal in Fulham’s thrilling Emirates FA Cup victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Nigerian defender opened the scoring late in the first half with a powerful header, marking his first-ever goal in the competition.
However, United’s Bruno Fernandes leveled the game 19 minutes from time, forcing a dramatic penalty shootout. Fulham ultimately emerged victorious, winning 4-3 on penalties.
Speaking to the BBC, Bassey shared his excitement:
“It’s a privilege and an honor to be here. Playing at Old Trafford is a blessing, so I’m really happy.”
He humorously described his goal-scoring instincts:
“I like to think of myself as a bit of a poacher—anticipating where the ball will land, reacting first, and putting my head on it. Thankfully, it hit the back of the net!”
Reflecting on Fulham’s strategy against a talented Manchester United squad, Bassey added:
“They have incredible players, but we focused on controlling possession and taking the sting out of the game.”
With this victory, Fulham advances in the FA Cup, while Bassey celebrates a memorable night at Old Trafford.
