It's rumored that France Football is contemplating awarding the 2020 Ballon d’Or to Barcelona's star forward, Robert Lewandowski.
Despite his incredible performance that year, including winning the treble with Bayern Munich, Lewandowski was denied the prestigious award due to COVID-19 restrictions cancelling the ceremony.
Diario Sport journalist Ivan San Antonio reports that France Football is mulling over the possibility of granting Lewandowski the Ballon d’Or this year, but no official decision has been made yet.
During the 2019-2020 season, Lewandowski showcased the best form of his career, scoring a remarkable 55 goals across all competitions and playing a pivotal role in Bayern Munich's European treble victory.
He emerged as the top scorer in both the Bundesliga with 34 goals and the Champions League with 15 goals. With such stellar achievements, it's no wonder there's talk of him rightfully receiving the Ballon d’Or recognition for his outstanding contributions on the field.
