At the 2022 World Cup, Lionel Messi won the Golden Ball, securing his position as the competition's best player.

Messi scored seven goals while guiding Argentina to their first World Cup victory and second international championship.

Messi will take the title over any individual honors, despite missing out on the Golden Boot by one goal to Kylian Mbappe.

Prior to the competition, Messi was projected to be the winner at +550, per DraftKings Sportsbook.
