New Chelsea owner, Boehly faces first challenge as top star insist on leaving Stamford Bridge
According to AS, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has refused to stay at Stamford Bridge after a successful acquisition by new owner Todd Boehly.
On Saturday, he was at Stamford Bridge for the Premier League's 2-2 tie with Wolves.
The first major difficulty for Boehly at the club is that one of Chelsea's main players, Azpilicueta, is scheduled to inform the new owner of his intention to leave this summer.
On Saturday morning, it was revealed that Boehly, a US business billionaire, had agreed to buy the Blues for £4.25 billion.
The new owner has already recognized Reece James' and Mason Mount's contract issues as a priority.
It's too late now to stop the likes of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger from leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer, while Cesar Azpilicueta is also determined to leave.
As reports suggest, Azpilicueta, who joined Chelsea back in 2013, has agreed a two-year deal with Barcelona with an option to sign for a further 12 months, worth €13 million-a-year.
Azpilicueta triggered a one-year extension in March after activating a performance-related clause.
The Spain international made the required number of appearances earlier to ensure his agreement, which was signed in December 2018, was automatically extended until the summer of 2023.
