Arsenal are interested in signing Chelsea forward Kai Havertz this summer, should the west London club lower their asking price.
Havertz, who arrived at Chelsea in a deal worth £75 million in 2020, is among those who could be sold this summer as the Blues look to reduce their bloated squad and raise significant funds through player sales.
Arsenal, keen to bolster Arteta’s squad this summer after the Spaniard guided the Gunners to a second-place finish in the Premier League last season, have identified Havertz as a potential signing.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Real Madrid following Karim Benzema’s move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, but, according to the Daily Telegraph, Arsenal are also carefully monitoring the situation.
The report added that Chelsea will not stand in Havertz’s way if he wishes to leave but are determined to recoup a figure close to the one they paid Bayer Leverkusen three years ago when they signed him.
Chelsea’s £70 million price tag on Havertz has so far scared off potential bidders, but the Stamford Bridge club feel the valuation is a fair one.
Real Madrid and Arsenal are unlikely to be willing to pay more than £50 million for the German international, leaving Chelsea with a major dilemma this summer transfer window.
Havertz’s current contract at Chelsea will expire in 2024, and he has so far shown no indication he wants to extend his deal.
