Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has said that nothing has taken away Cristiano Ronaldo’s legendary status at Old Trafford.

According to the former England striker, the football icon’s controversial departure from Old Trafford in November has not taken a toll on his legacy at the Theatre of Dreams.

Ronaldo returned to Manchester United from Juventus in the summer of 2021 and left again on mutual consent in November after he granted an explosive interview to British broadcaster Piers Morgan.

Rooney talked about the controversial exit of his former teammate Ronaldo in an interview with CNN, saying the Portuguese captain did so much for the club to be stripped of his legendary status.

“No, I think what he’s done for Manchester United is great." And he’s won Premier League titles, won the Champions League, and scored many goals. So I think, certainly for the fans and certainly for the players, we’ll never forget what he did for Manchester United.
“Because in my eyes, he’ll always be a club legend, and it’s a shame the way it ended this time around. But I don’t think that takes anything away from his legacy at the club.”
