The Federal Government has claimed that "a lot is occurring behind the scenes" as it attempts to resolve the Academic Staff Union of Universities' prolonged strike (ASUU).

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, announced this to State House media during President Muhammadu Buhari's weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa.

ASUU has been on strike since February 14, and all public universities have been closed since then.

"I wish the ASUU situation were as straightforward as many of us believe it to be." I don't believe it's that straightforward. But rest assured, there's a lot going on behind the scenes.
“And I think probably the Minister of Education will be better positioned to give the details." But like any government, if we’re not concerned, we would not have set up all the committees that have been working. If we are not concerned, we will not be looking for means to even assuage the feelings of the Union.
“We’re worried, we’re concerned, and we’ll continue to work towards finding an early resolution to the problem,” Mohammed said.
