The ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has once more been extended.
The choice was made following the National Executive Council meeting on Monday, August 29, at the union's headquarters at the University of Abuja.
The ASUU strike was initially expected to last for 4 weeks and started on February 14, 2022. To give the government more time to respond to all of its demands, ASUU decided to extend its ongoing industrial action by an additional two months on March 14, exactly one month after it started.
Today marks day 196 of the strike.
The federal government's inability to carry out earlier agreements both parties made is the reason the union is on strike.
Funding for the revitalization of public universities, earned academic allowances, a solution for university transparency and accountability, promotion backlogs, and other issues are among the protests made by lecturers.
