The Igbinedion University, Okada, located in Edo State, proudly announced the initiation of a groundbreaking project – the manufacturing of a lightweight electric minibus, marking a historic first among Nigerian universities.



During the 21st convocation of the country's premier private university, the Vice-Chancellor, Lawrence Ezemonye, shared this exciting development on Friday. Professor Ezemonye conveyed that the university is actively engaged in the design and fabrication processes that will ultimately result in the production of these innovative vehicles.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the venture into research, development, and innovation is pivotal for scholarly pursuits and knowledge creation. He highlighted the ongoing efforts in designing and fabricating a Light Weight Electric Minibus, emphasizing that the project will unfold through various phases, accompanied by periodic public lectures. Engineering students are encouraged to delve into research topics at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels that align with the project's objectives.

In addition to this groundbreaking initiative, Mr. Ezemonye took the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the university over the past year. These include the establishment of a Centre for Distance Learning, comprehensive campus-wide digitalization and innovation, and the provision of scholarships.

On a celebratory note, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that 842 students successfully graduated during the 2022/2023 session. Among them, 36 achieved First Class Honours, while 299 graduated with Second Class Honours (Upper Division).

The Chancellor of the university, Gabriel Igbinedion, imparted words of wisdom to the graduates during the convocation ceremony. Represented by his deputy and son, Lucky Igbinedion, he urged the graduates to become exemplary ambassadors of their Alma Mater and make a positive impact on the world. Mr. Igbinedion encouraged them to build powerful networks that would open doors of opportunities in various spheres of life. As these graduates step into the next phase of their journey, they carry not only their academic achievements but also the promise of a university at the forefront of innovation and progress.
